In Person: Reduce waste by planning less
Additional Information & Registration
Thursday 17 July 5:30pm – 7:30pm (Brisbane, Australia)
Following the warm reception John Stathakis received for his talk at the Project Management Institute (PMIQ) last month, we asked him if he could present it to the Brisbane Agile group.
A provocative title suggesting that a detailed plan is not the silver bullet to solve all our issues. Rather, John suggests that initiatives should focus on building resilience. After presenting a few practical approaches, John then provides a case study of how these principles were applied effectively in his delivery at QUT.
This talk is aimed at both the expert practitioner as well as those new to the domain.
This is a joint event with Agile Brisbane, Lean Business Strategies, Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) Brisbane, and Lean Startup Brisbane

Speaker – John Stathakis
John has spent the past two decades working in digital delivery and transformation across a range of industries, including higher education, local government, and the Queensland public sector. He’s led and supported projects of all sizes, and is particularly interested in how we can reduce waste, simplify governance, and create more resilient delivery environments.
Currently working in a senior ICT leadership role within government, John holds a mix of traditional and agile certifications including PMP, PRINCE2 Practitioner, PMI-ACP, SAFe SPC, and ScrumMaster. He was involved in delivering the QUT HiQ Student ID Card project, and has continued to explore ways to focus less on detailed planning and more on value, adaptability, and sustainable progress.
John also co-organises Agile Brisbane, and volunteers at PMDoS.
He looks forward to sharing some practical reflections and hearing from others in the room.
